This is a public diary and a public confession. Its the story of Mike Gibbons-Camp, a 30 year old legal aid attorney who on August 23, 2007 weighed in at 392.8 lbs. Thanks to the constant support of my wife, Liz, and a kick in the pants by a good friend who I hadn't talked to for a while, I finally decided that enough was enough. But instead of quietly suffering with my weight, I started my blog, "New Me?"

I did really well for 10 weeks, then it completely fell apart. I was in denial for a long time, thinking I was just slipping up a bit, making a mistake here or there. But the reality was that I had failed.

Since then i've tried just about everything I could to get back on the wagon. And i've done well for a week here, a week there, but nothing lasting. So I don't know what to tell a new reader to my blog, but "welcome, and wish me luck."

Thank you for posting this! We all need a little inspiration along the way to know that others have walked in our shoes and faced the same challenges and battles.

I hope you enjoy your Canadian Thanksgiving celebration, I just did a whole post on how I had always let holidays turn into year long eating festivals so yes, I can relate to the challenges of eating with the inlaws who don't know you are dieting. Honestly, they would probably embrace your desire to live a healthy life. I'm sure they want you to be around for a long time to come for Liz. As far as restaurants go, order what you like. If you feel guilty for drinking only water, leave a bigger tip for the waitress or ask the manager if they have a charity they donate to and make a donation to the charity in their name. I often order water with lemon with dinner simply because if I have caffeine after 5pm, I won't sleep at night. Water is my only choice.

You've done a phenomenal job so far. I'm so proud of you for jogging. I actually jogged yesterday during my walk, only for the length of one house, but its a start. Every little bit helps.

I'm so glad you've decided to share your story with the blogging world! I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts.
